  • Fear Factor

This week in our KidMin large/small group, we’re going to talk about Courage. It’s interesting that the opposite, fear, is acknowledged. It’s OK to have fear. As we learn this week, “when you’re afraid, remember God is with you.”

And, honestly, this week I was afraid. We’re in the midst of re-evaluating our curriculum. It’s not that it’s bad or not meeting needs. People have questions and they want to know more about it and any other solutions that are out there.

Honestly, I’m selfish. I want to stay where we are on this curriculum. I equate it to a toolbox. We have it full of amazing and wonderful tools. But, all we have time for and are equipped to use are a hammer, saw and screwdriver. Keep in mind, we can do some amazing things with those three tools. But, we would need some more people, time or resources to expand the usage.

Change can always create some fear. Even within those of us that thrive on change and are in a position to help facilitate it. So, this possibility had got my fear going.

But, this is a God thing. No, really. It’s for God. So, why can’t I trust Him in this? Why can’t I use what He’s given me (knowledge, persuasion, humor, etc.) and share with others what I know? Why can’t I trust that the right decision will be made regardless of what I think it is?

We had our first meeting on Tuesday. It was a great time where we could get to know everyone and begin discussion on what who kids are at various ages and how best to reach them. Not  reinventing the wheel stuff. Just 30,000 ft. perspective stuff.

So, back to the analogy. I think people are interested in the current toolbox. And it’s OK to look at others. And I’m going to trust God in all of this.
