What do I hope for at Orange?
When I mention to people I am attending Orange this week, it takes a little bit of explaining. After the initial pitch, they get it. One follow-up I do get is, “So, you’re taking off work for this?” My day-job is a System Administrator at an ad agency in Atlanta, GA. Children and family ministry is a side gig (or at times, another job).
Starting Wednesday, I’ll be at the The Orange Conference. It’s a big deal within the #kidmin and #stumin space. Here’s what’s I’m excited about…
Worship - I’m at a pretty buttoned up Presbyterian church. I know there is a tendancy for worship to move away from the lights, smoke, etc. But, I enjoy it (at least at events like Orange).
Names and faces - I love following folks via the social network stream. There are some extremely smart people out there and I’ve enjoyed putting a name with a face over the course of the years I’ve attended. I took a chance at reaching out to some people and it has paid off in many ways.
Learn - I’ve always come away with some great inspiration from the breakout sessions. And the talks during the main sessions are wonderful as well.
Grow - Much of what we talk about affects my family as much as it does the ministry I am part of. I want to continue to grow in leading my family toward a deeper relationship with Christ.
I’m extremly lucky to get to do what I do each and every day, whether it’s being a husband, father, IT geek or host/leader at our elementary school program. This week is like gravy to me. I’m really glad I can be a part of it.
